Jen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Techniques: Butterfly Guard Pass |
| DISCLAIMER! Please note that these techniques should only be practiced with a trained or certified instructor. Failure to do these moves correctly could result in serious bodily injury or in some cases, death! |
| 1. The opponent (white) is attempting to engage Michael (blue) with the butterfly guard. |
| 2. In order to set up a sweep, the opponent gets the underhook with his right arm and places his left hand on the ground to move his hips more to his right. |
| 3. Michael places his right hand on the ground behind the opponent's left knee and sits his weight back. This blocks the opponent's ability to sweep Michael forward. Michael's left hand is cupping the opponent's back. |
| 4. Michael places weight on his right arm and straightens it as he straightens his right leg back. This removes the opponent's left foot that was hooking Michael's leg. |
| 5. Michael then grabs the opponent's right ankle with his right hand and places weight on it as he begins to move around to the opponent's right side. |
| 6. As he circles around, Michael drives his opponent's torso to the ground and establishes side control. |
